Pond & Forest, Meredith
In
January 2009, The Trust for Public Land and its partners
successfully completed the purchase of the Page Pond and
Forest. The property was conveyed to the Town of Meredith
for permanent conservation. Protection of this site ensures
that traditional uses, including hiking, fishing, hunting,
snow shoeing and cross country skiing, will continue in the
future. The Page Pond property also allows visitors an
opportunity to wander among the remains of an historic sawmill
and a large number of historic sites including pre-colonial
cellar holes and stone walls. Conservation of this community
resource will enhance Meredith's recreation-based tourism
industry and create new opportunities for environmental
education with schools in the area.
The 567-acre Page Pond and Forest located on Meredith Neck,
New Hampshire, is an iconic landscape comprised of nearly 500
acres of forestland with two miles of frontage on Page Brook.
As one of the largest remaining undisturbed forest tracts in
the Town of Meredith, its protection is critical to the
long-term maintenance of water quality in Lake Winnipesaukee.
Page Pond and Forest is also prized for its wildlife habitat,
scenic beauty, and recreational values.
