On Wednesday, May 29th from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, at the Laconia Public Library, the Lake Winnipesaukee Association (LWA) will present the results of the study they completed to assess the water quality and identify potential sources of pollution to Paugus Bay, the City of Laconia’s drinking water source. Through a NH Department of Environmental Services Source Water Protection grant, LWA, in collaboration with the City of Laconia Water Department and the Conservation Commission, updated the 2010 watershed management plan to investigate 5 priority areas within the Paugus Bay subwatershed. The work included water quality monitoring, completing a land use model, and conducting watershed and shoreline surveys to identify areas in need of mitigation. The work results in an action plan that describes measures to be taken to reduce the amount of nutrient and sediment loading into the bay, thereby protecting its water quality as a drinking water source.
Residents and businesses located within the Paugus Bay watershed in are encouraged to attend. For additional information, contact Bree Rossiter, LWA, at 603-581-6632, or email: brossiter@winnipesaukee.org.
