Effects of Shoreline Erosion

• Nonpoint Source Pollution occurs when stormwater runoff, seepage from septic systems, and gravel road erosion allow inorganic and organic materials into the water that stimulate plant and algae growth.
• As watersheds in many surrounding regions are developed, Lake Winnipesaukee continues to be affected by erosion, causing a decline in water quality.
• Soil erosion hazards occur from land contours, climate conditions, soil texture & composition, permeability, and soil structure. This should be a primary factor in determining the rate and placement of development within a watershed.
• Preventing erosion is critical when trying to protect Riparion corridor, the wildlife habitat found along the banks of the lake.
