Public Presentation of New Watershed Plans for Center Harbor, the Broads, and Alton Bay
The Lake Winnipesaukee Alliance will host a public presentation to unveil the results of three newly completed watershed-based plans for Center Harbor Bay, the Broads, and Alton Bay. The event will provide lake residents, local officials, business owners, and community partners with an opportunity to learn about the findings, recommended actions, and long-term strategies developed to protect water quality in these iconic areas of Lake Winnipesaukee.
These watershed-based plans identify the primary sources of nutrient loading and other stressors affecting each region of the lake. They outline practical, science-based solutions—ranging from stormwater improvements to land-use practices—to reduce pollution and prevent harmful cyanobacteria blooms. The plans were created through a collaborative process involving local stakeholders, municipal leaders, technical experts, and state agencies.

“We are eager to share these findings because they give our communities a clear roadmap for protecting some of the lake’s most cherished waters,” said Pat Tarpey, Lake Winnipesaukee Alliance. “This work positions us to take meaningful action that preserves water quality, supports recreation, and ensures the lake remains healthy for generations.”
During the presentation, project partners will review the scientific assessment behind each plan, highlight priority areas for improvement, and discuss potential funding opportunities for implementation. Attendees will also have time for questions and community dialogue.
The completed plans were funded through support from the U.S. EPA and private donors. The watershed-based plans will be made available online by the end of the year.
